Brawl during football game at Pacifica High brings Oxnard police

A large-scale fight that broke out during Friday night’s football game at Pacifica High School in Oxnard brought a significant police response.

Rival Oxnard High was the visiting team at the campus at 600 E. Gonzales Road.

Oxnard Police Department Cmdr. Kevin Baysinger said the agency didn’t have an exact number of people involved as of 10:15 p.m. Social media posts claimed about 200 youths took part.

No arrests were made, the commander said, and no serious injuries were reported. One person may have received medical attention. The Oxnard Fire Department responded around 8:50 p.m.

At one point, the police department had about 25 units on scene, Baysinger said.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office sent five units to assist with traffic control and crowd dispersal, said Capt. Rob Yoos.

Some roads were blocked as authorities directed traffic.

Both schools are part of the Oxnard Unified High School District.

Pacifica won the game 44-7.
