NORTH EAST — A North East man is facing felony burglary and criminal trespass charges after borough police said he broke into their police station early Friday morning.
Carl B. Rizzo III, 33, is also facing a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief in the incident, which police said happened on Friday at about 3:45 a.m. at the North East police station at 58 E. Main St.
Police wrote in the affidavit filed with the criminal complaint against Rizzo that a borough police officer arrived at the station to find Rizzo standing in the inner lobby, which is locked to the public when an officer is not at the station. Rizzo said he broke the door when asked how he got in, and when asked why he didn’t use an available call box to contact the station, he said there were screws loose in the box, someone was always at the station, and he did not have a cell phone to call the police, according to information in the affidavit.

A review of video from the station’s surveillance camera showed Rizzo kicking the door several times and screaming at the camera before pulling the door, causing its deadbolts to break, and getting access to the inner lobby. Once inside, video showed Rizzo continuing to yell for someone, pulling on an office door and banging on a window to the administrative assistant’s desk, police wrote in the affidavit.
North East District Judge Scott Hammer arraigned Rizzo on the charges on Friday night and set bond at $20,000. A lawyer for Rizzo was not listed on his criminal docket sheet Monday.
