British mum moves to Spain and is floored by price of her energy bills

Lots of people like the idea of moving abroad. After all, the weather is nicer, life seems better and the food is also second to none.

But one mum recently opened up about one of the biggest advantages of relocating. Jodie Marlow, known as @jodiemar1ow on TikTok, is known for documenting her life as a mum who’s relocated to Spain, and she recently opened up about her bills.

Its turns out there’s a big difference when it comes to what she’s paying to run a house. In fact, a lot of people couldn’t believe the prices in Spain.

In the clip, she explained they don’t have to pay any rent or mortgage fees as they own their property. She admitted the cost of electric is also “really good”, and she recently changed suppliers.

Jodie said: “Oh my gosh, amazing. Last month, before I really put the aircon on, was €37 (£30.82). This month I’ve had the aircon on nearly every night for the boys and, I think when I tried to look quickly because it’s not generated fully, it’s around €55 to €60 (around £45.82), which I think is nothing.

“So, if anyone lives in Spain and pays their own electricity bills, you need to message me. I can’t believe how cheap it’s changed to.”

She continued: “Water is around €99 (£82.47) every three months, so that’s €33 (£27.49) every month. The house actually runs off a gas bottle. I thought it was really weird at first but, actually, it’s pretty normal in Spain, and a gas bottle costs around €16 (£13.33).”

When it’s hot, Jodie said a lot of people don’t have warm showers, so it doesn’t actually get used a lot during certain times of the year. She also doesn’t use the gas hob a lot as she has a barbecue outside, as well as an airfryer to get the most out of her cooking.

On a good month, the gas bottle can probably last the family around three months. She thinks council tax works out at around €21 (£17.49) a month, which she doesn’t think is a lot, and her home insurance also comes in at a similar rate.

Since Jodie shared the video, it’s been viewed hundreds of times, and people can’t believe how reasonable her bills are. Lots of people shared their thoughts in the comment section.

One wrote: “60 Euros a month! We spend £40 per week for a four-bed house in England.” Another replied: “Oh my god, your electric is so cheap. Ours is so much more!”

A third also wrote: “So cheap. My gas and electric is £250 together, and my council tax is like £180 a month.”
