Brunswick’s blast to the past and a new road forward

As 2025 lurks around the corner, here’s a look at what happened in Brunswick County the last full week of December 2025.

From saving historical churches to weekend boating excursions, it seems like Brunswick County is the place to be. Areas like Southport and Leland are bursting at the seams while some Brunswick beach towns are sewing up new projects.

We may be moving forward in time, but Cheryl and Owen took us on a blast to the past last week with stories about how Caswell beach got its name and the fight over the last undeveloped island left in Brunswick County.

Dr. Chris Moshoures purchased St. Mark AME Zion Church several years with the intention of restoring it. Now, he hopes to donate the property to the town of Shallotte to ensure its continued preservation.

Here we grow again

We may not be New York City but some towns are looking to reexamine road safety before it’s too late. Take a look at what Leland residents have to say about improving Leland roadways.

Like Leland, some residents tucked behind N.C. 211 near Southport are waiting for road work to be done. Click here to read about residents waiting on their only entrance to collapse.

Here’s a feel-good story to keep you in the giving spirit: A Shallotte eye doctor is working to save a local church.

The agenda

The new year kicks off Wednesday. However, some Brunswick towns are kicking off new projects all month long.
