The Greater Alliance Carnation Festival Board and its 2024 president, Sue Grove, paid tribute to a former president during the festival’s Community Luncheon.

Staci Gurney, who served as the festival’s president and treasurer for five consecutive years, was honored during the Aug. 3 event.

Gurney was the first president in the 64-year history of the festival to serve for five consecutive years. She was president from 2019-2023, and the festival officials pointed out her efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the event was canceled.

“Her leadership qualities are proven and appreciated by the board and the Alliance community,” board members said in a news release.

Gurney remained on the board this year as its chairman, and also served again as treasurer.
