A bus carrying a Carroll County Public Schools student was involved in a head-on collision Thursday morning in Hampstead, according to police.
A five-year-old boy was the only student riding on the school bus at the time, and was not injured, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack; the driver of the bus was also uninjured.
The driver of the car involved in the collision, a red Kia Optima, was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma for non-life-threatening injuries, the release stated.

Police said the car was traveling southbound on Route 30 (Hanover Pike) at about 6:44 a.m., Thursday when it struck the bus head-on in the northbound lane. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Hampstead Pike was closed for about four hours Thursday morning, according to the release.
There were 13 traffic accidents involving Carroll County school buses during the first two months of the school year, Transportation Services Director Michael Hardesty said in an email last month, which he called an excellent record considering the distances school buses travel. No accident-related injuries had been reported for this school year at the time.
