Casa Grande police ask public for help finding suspect in Catholic church arson

The Casa Grande Police Department asked for the public’s help to locate an arson suspect who officials believe set fire to a Catholic church in late October.

On Saturday, Casa Grande police released a video of a suspect who is believed responsible for starting an Oct. 18 fire at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, located near Marshall and Second streets.

The suspect is seen wearing a gray hoodie with white lettering on the chest and gray pants.

The fire caused significant damage to the church. Representing the only Catholic place of worship in the city, community members stepped up to support the church as authorities searched for the arson suspect.

“CGPD has been working closely with the Casa Grande Fire Department and the ATF to complete this investigation. Detectives believe the person in this video is responsible for the crime,” wrote the Casa Grande police on Facebook.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to contact Detective Alex Teitelbaum, via email at alex_teitelbaum@casagrandeaz.gov, or by phone at 520-421-8711, ext. 6017.
