The Central and Southern Region of the American Red Cross has sent relief vehicles and at least 16 volunteers to areas of Florida, Georgia and North Carolina devastated by Helene and its remnants to provide humanitarian relief, the agency reported Friday.
The area Red Cross on Thursday sent two emergency vehicles to Macon, Georgia, to provide support for relief operations. The vehicles, one from Newark and the other from Cincinnati, will be used for mobile feeding and to distribute emergency supplies. They will be joining a fleet of other Red Cross emergency vehicles that are coming in from around the country, the agency said.
At least 16 central Ohio Red Cross volunteers were already in areas of Florida, Georgia and western North Carolina impacted by Helene as of Friday. The agency said it plans to send more volunteers in waves since the effects from the storm are expected to last for months. The Central and Southern Ohio Region of the Red Cross said they are also keeping volunteers in the region in case they are needed locally.
