A construction project at Charlotte’s airport is permanently closing Marshall Drive and a portion of Old Dowd Road will be closed the rest of the year, starting Wednesday.
The work is for the $253.1 million North End-Around Taxiway project, which is a part of Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s “Destination CLT” plan to improve services and operations.
It will provide a connection for arriving aircraft between a western runway and a terminal ramp, according to CLT. And it will help reduce the number of aircraft crossings on the runway, enhance safety on the airfield and improve airplane traffic.
The new taxiway will provide connectivity for arriving aircraft between the western runway and the terminal ramp. This connectivity will reduce the number of aircraft crossings on Runway 18C/36C, will enhance safety of the airfield and will provide for additional queuing capabilities for traffic utilizing Runway 18C/36C.
A new bridge connection to Wilkinson Boulevard will be completed during the closure, CLT said in a Tuesday announcement. Motorists are being asked to follow all detour signs.
Here’s what drivers should expect as construction continues, according to the airport.
