Chicago Blackhawks’ 2024 Opening Night Roster Set

Chicago Blackhawks’ 2024 Opening Night Roster Set

The Chicago Blackhawks played six pre-season games and had great training camps by a number of players. Unfortunately everybody can’t make the team out of camp, but the 23-man roster is set after a lot of competition to get to this point.

A number of cuts were made over the last week, but ahead of the final pre-season game against the St. Louis Blues, the Blackhawks dressed a relatively young lineup. This saw the team recall many younger players that had already been cut to give them one last look before returning them all to the AHL.

Following the team’s first win of the pre-season, the Blackhawks returned Brandon Baddock (released from PTO), Austin Strand (released from PTO), Colton Dach, Cole Guttman, Frank Nazar, Zach Sanford, Samuel Savoie, Landon Slaggert, Louis Crevier, Ethan Del Mastro, Kevin Korchinski, and Drew Commesso to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

With the Blackhawks playing their first game of the 2024-25 season on October 8 against the Utah HC, the roster is down to 23 players, including 14 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goalies. Laurent Brossoit is currently listed as injured non-roster, so when he returns, Arvid Soderblom will be sent to the AHL and the Blackhawks will keep two goalies on the roster.

Chicago has chosen to go the most common route of holding two extra forwards and one extra defenseman on the roster for now. With the season-opening roster deadline on Monday, this is what the Blackhawks have, but who is in the lineup for the first game remains to be seen.
