A citywide water outage left residents and businesses within the city of Bradenton without water on Sunday morning.
Around 10 a.m., officials issued a 48-hour boil water notice as service began to be restored.
“While our potable water remains safe and secure to drink, this notice is being issued as an extra safety measure,” city officials said in a statement posted to the city’s website.
Over the next 48 hours, officials said all water used for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth should be boiled for at least one minute.
Power failure caused Bradenton water outage, officials say
The Bradenton Police Department first reported the outage around 7:50 a.m.
In an update around 9:30 a.m., the agency said generators were being used to get the water system back online. But it could be “a while” before water pressure is restored, the department said.
The water outage was caused by a power loss at the city’s water treatment plant early Sunday morning, the agency said.
The power loss was likely caused by weather, the agency said. Florida Power & Light was investigating further.
A police spokesperson said the city’s Public Works Department confirmed the outage was citywide.
“They are actively working to identify the source,” the agency wrote on X, the social media website formerly known as Twitter.
