Clark’s Harbour man faces 48 new charges after firearm pointed at police officer

A Clark’s Harbour, N.S., man has been charged with dozens of offences in connection with violent incidents over several days, including pointing a firearm at a police officer.

According to a news release on Friday, the RCMP say the suspect, a 54-year-old man, attended a residence on Jan. 4 and 5 and made threats to the occupant.

Police say the suspect was on conditions not to attend the home and had an active arrest warrant at the time this happened. Police were alerted to the break and enter on Jan. 6, according to the release.

On Jan. 9, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the RCMP received a report the man broke into a residence in Lower Ohio, N.S., stole a vehicle and showed he had a firearm with him at the time.

Police say the vehicle was found outside a building near Barrington, N.S. They say when the suspect exited the building, he pointed the firearm at a police officer and then got away in the stolen vehicle. The man was heading toward Yarmouth on Highway 103, the release says.

The man was arrested when the stolen vehicle ended up in a ditch near the Yarmouth-Shelburne county line. Police say they found and seized a firearm on the floor of the vehicle. They say the firearm was loaded.

The man had his first court appearance on Thursday. He faces 48 charges including pointing a firearm, two counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of break and enter and 19 counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He is also facing charges from the previous warrant, police noted. The man was remanded in custody pending future court appearances, police say.
