CNN host John Berman sheepishly apologized for his cringe-face reaction Wednesday to former President Joe Biden’s comment about dropping out of the 2024 election. (Watch the video below.)
The anchor said he was introducing a sound bite from Biden’s interview with the BBC in which the ex-president was “asked a question … that I know Democrats don’t want to relive right now.”
“Should you have withdrawn earlier?” the BBC’s Nick Robinson queried in the clip.
“I don’t think it would have mattered,” Biden replied, implying that the election was a lost cause for his replacement, then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
Berman, evidently not prepared for the camera to quickly cut back to him, was caught gritting his teeth at Biden’s comments in a look that suggested revulsion and embarrassment.
“Um, sorry,” Berman said. “I shouldn’t have had that face there.”
He then turned to Alyssa Farah Griffin for her take.
Griffin, a former Trump communications director who’s now a cohost on “The View,” said that Harris could not have overcome the negative approval ratings of the Biden administration at the time.
Fast-forward to 2:45 for Berman’s awkward moment:
