Columbus father and son charged in connection with fatal shooting of teenager in Hilltop

A father and his teenage son have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old earlier this month in Columbus’ Hilltop neighborhood.

Robert A. Clark II, 34, and his son, Robert Clark III, 15, of the Milo-Grogan neighborhood in Columbus, have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Carnal Mixon. The younger Clark has been charged with murder in juvenile court and is being held at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center while prosecutors decide whether to seek to have him charged as an adult.

His father has been charged with obstructing justice, and is in custody at the Franklin County jail.

Columbus police received a report of a shooting just before 3:40 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the 300 block of Lechner Avenue in the Hilltop neighborhood, The Dispatch previously reported. Responding officers found Mixon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Columbus Fire medics transported Mixon in critical condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, Downtown, in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Columbus police homicide detectives, police went to the Clark home Thursday afternoon on East 4th Avenue in Milo-Grogan searching for the younger Clark. Officers arrested him and found that the older Clark was in the home with him.

Detectives said in the affidavit that the older Clark had fled with the younger Clark after the son fatally shot Mixon on Oct. 4 and harbored him from authorities.

The elder Clark’s arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning, Franklin County Municipal Court records show.
