Coronation Street star Colson Smith announced he is being axed from the ITV soap after 14 years on screens. The actor, 26, plays the role of PC Craig Tinker on the show but will be leaving the famous cobbles later this year.
Colson, who joined the show back in 2011, confirmed that he was told he would be written out of the show in Autumn last year.
Just a child, he was cast as Craig in the popular Manchester ITV soap, the son of Beth Tinker played by actress Lisa George. His character’s storylines on the cobbles have included a battle with OCD and becoming a police officer.

In a social media post, shared to X and Instagram on Monday (January 6), he said: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.
“I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.
“I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. Iām excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.
“For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely canāt wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”
For his role of Craig, Smith was previously nominated for Best Young Actor at the 2015 Inside Soap Awards.

The soap actor took part in ITV reality show Celebrity Big Brother last spring and also appeared on ITVās jungle spin-off show I’m a Celebrity: Unpacked at the end of the year.
The news comes after fans feared Coronation Street could be saying goodbye to another legend amid the soapās new boss, with other shock exits reported to be in the works.
Fansā fears that Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who has been in the show since 1997, could be set for a prison exit come after Corrieās new boss Kate Brooks warned fans to expect several exits in 2025 that ‘will send shockwaves’.
She shared: There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves. People might not expect the exits, but there are a few.”
