Could Bianca Censori be charged with public indecency after Grammys stunt?

People might quip about fashion police but some social media users are concerned that Bianca Censori might face criminal charges for her controversial outfit at the Grammy Awards.

Taking to the Grammys red carpet with husband Kanye West, Censori was at first covered up in a black fur coat, which she eventually shrugged down to reveal a near-nude look.

Wearing a sheer dress matched exactly to her skin tone, Censoriā€™s look gave the appearance of looking nude, even putting her breasts and genitalia on display from certain angles.

LAPD responds to Bianca Censoriā€™s controversial outfit

While the average observer might be concerned about the legality of Censoriā€™s almost-nude look, the LAPD told Newsweek on Monday, February 4, that they were not aware of any legal charges being levelled.

In California, public nudity is not illegal in itself but public indecency is. To charge someone with public indecency, the incident needs to involve someone intentionally exposing their genitals or naked body in front of someone who could be offended.

This stipulation that it needs to be in front of someone could be offended could have been negated by the fact that Censori was at an awards show, where itā€™s common for unusual outfits to be displayed.

If Censori was charged with indecent exposure, those charges could also expand to include Kanye West for assisting her.

However, as it stands, there is no evidence to suggest that either member of the couple will be charged.
