A cyclist tragically died after being knocked down by a woman who carried on driving with the bike underneath her car. Seena Chacko, 42, hit the 62-year-old cyclist in Handforth, near Wilmslow.
A court heard how the cyclist was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but died from her injuries three days later. She has since been named at coroner’s court as Emma Smallwood.
Chacko has now been sentenced to four years in prison. Officers were called out to a hit-and-run collision on Wilmslow Road, in Handforth, on Saturday, September 14.

Chacko had been driving a blue Citroen C4 Grand Picasso when she hit Mrs Smallwood, knocking her to the roadside. Chacko continued driving along the road with the bike underneath her car until she was stopped by another motorist.
Mrs Smallwood was treated at the scene by passers-by before paramedics arrived. She was taken to hospital where she remained in a critical condition until she died on September 17.
Chacko, of Tabley Road, Handforth, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court yesterday (November 21) to be sentenced. She pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and driving with no licence and no insurance.
She originally pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving prior to Mrs Smallwood’s death. Investigating officer Sergeant Russ Sime, from Cheshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a horrific incident and shocking for those who witnessed it.
“I’d like to thank those who stopped the car, and those who gave the cyclist first aid while paramedics were called. Our thoughts are with the family of the cyclist.
“No one should have to go through these very sad circumstances and this tragic incident highlights the need to drive safely for everyone’s sake.” An inquest into Mrs Smallwood’s death was opened last month and is due to resume at Warrington Coroner’s Court, on April 28 next year.
