Dallas police officer fatally shot, 2 more wounded in Oak Cliff Thursday night: officials

A Dallas police officer was killed and two more officers were wounded in a shooting in Oak Cliff on Thursday night, officials said. The suspect is also dead.

“Our department is hurting,” Dallas Police Department spokesperson Kristin Lowman told reporters at a news conference. “We have officers who are injured who are in the hospital, and we lost one of our own.”

Dallas police received an “officer in distress” call around 10:10 p.m., Lowman said. When they responded to the location in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive, they found an officer who had been shot in his marked patrol vehicle.

Responding officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and two of them were wounded. All three officers were transported to Dallas hospitals. One of them is listed in stable condition, another in critical condition and a third officer died from his injuries, Lowman said.

The officers haven’t yet been publicly identified.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting, and Dallas police pursued him to Lewisville. The suspect exited his vehicle in the 1000 block of Stemmons Freeway, and preliminary investigation shows he was holding a long gun, Lowman said.

Dallas officers shot at the suspect, and he died at the scene, according to Lowman. The suspect hasn’t been publicly identified.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
