PHOENIX – The westbound lanes of Interstate 10 are closed in Phoenix after a man was shot and killed on the freeway.
What we know
Per Phoenix Police officials, the shooting involved two men. A 911 call came in at about 8 a.m. for a shooting that happened along the I-10’s westbound lanes.
According to police, some kind of fight took place, leading one man to shoot the other, killing him. The man who was shot then crashed his car into a median.

What they’re saying
“The male who was involved in the shooting, he did contact police,” said Phoenix Police Sergeant Brian Bower. “He is cooperating with law enforcement at this time. He pulled up into the parking lot just behind me, where he contacted police. Right now, heâs at our main headquarters where heâs expecting to be interviewed by detectives again, to find out what led up to the shooting.”
What we don’t know
Officials are still unsure where the shooting began, but they have narrowed the area to between 67th Avenue and 75th Avenue.

Investigators have not identified the two involved, and their connections to each other, if any, remain unknown at this time.
What led up to the shooting is also unclear at this time.
Authorities have also not said when the freeway will reopen. Officers are suggesting people use Buckeye Road, Van Buren Street, McDowell Road, and Thomas Road to get around the area.
