DeFuniak Springs man dies on Southern Raceway track in Milton following crash

A DeFuniak Springs man died Saturday in Milton after crashing on the Southern Raceway Track.

Florida Highway Patrol says they were requested to investigate a traffic accident on the track after local fire personnel responded.

“The on-scene fire chief stated the 33-year-old white male driver, out of DeFuniak Springs, had a medical emergency while racing on the track and crashed into a concrete barrier wall and fence which surrounded the track,” an FHP release said. “The fire chief stated that while rescue personnel were extracting the driver, the driver was still having a medical episode.”

Medical personnel flew the man to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he eventually died.

FHP did not release the type of medical emergency or the identity of the driver.
