Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a homicide Thursday morning during a house fire on Del Norte Boulevard in south Sacramento.
The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a 3:47 a.m. call for a reported structure fire on the 5200 block of Del Norte Boulevard in the unincorporated Fruitridge Pocket neighborhood.
Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesman for the Fire Department, said crews were met with “heavy fire conditions” at the front of the residence. Sylvia said the home appeared to have “hoarder-type conditions,” which slowed firefighters entry into the home.
After clearing a fence and clutter at the entry of the home, firefighters performed a search and found a man inside, Sylvia said. Firefighters performed medical aid but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives responded after the Sacramento County Coroner said the circumstances of the man’s death appeared suspicious, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters extinguished the fire but investigators remain on scene, Sylvia said.
