Dickinson man killed in shooting, suspect in custody

Jul. 5—DICKINSON — A Dickinson man is dead, and another is in custody following a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place around 7:11 p.m. in the 1000 block of Enterprise Avenue. Dickinson Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting and found Christopher Volney Ische, 59, of Dickinson, suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspected shooter, Jeffrey Dean Powell, 67, of Dickinson, remained at the scene and spoke with officers regarding the incident.

Ische was transported by ambulance to CHI St. Alexius Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and Powell, and based on the information gathered, they developed probable cause to arrest Powell. He has been charged with one count of murder, a class AA felony, and was transported to the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center. Powell is currently awaiting a bond hearing and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Police have confirmed that Powell and Ische were known to each other prior to the incident, which is being considered an isolated situation.

The Dickinson Police Department expressed gratitude to the Dickinson Area Ambulance Service, Dickinson Fire Department, Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Stark County State’s Attorney’s Office and Badlands Human Service Center for their assistance in the case.
