DICKSON CITY — A Chicago woman who advertised sexual services online fled when police officers approached her in a parking lot, according to a criminal complaint.
Dariann Payton, 26, of 339 W. 118th St., is charged with prostitution, endangering others and fleeing law enforcement officers.
According to the criminal complaint, Dickson City police were monitoring a website called ListCrawler, commonly used for advertisement of prostitution.
Officers came across a listing from someone named “Jessica,” who said she was available for services in Scranton.
On July 1, an officer contacted “Jessica,” later identified as Payton, and made plans to meet her at a parking lot at 3909 Commerce Boulevard for a “car date,” the complaint states.
Payton allegedly told an officer she charged $300 per hour, plus tips.
She showed up at the parking lot at about 1 a.m. where an officer said he was waiting in a blue Toyota
Payton said she could see the car, but not the customer.
When an officer then activated his emergency lights from a marked vehicle nearby, Payton attempted to flee in her vehicle, charges read.
A second police vehicle then boxed in Payton, bringing her car to a stop.
When asked why she was trying to leave the scene, Payton said officers aren’t allowed to chase residents in Illinois and denied being in the parking lot to provide sexual services, charges read.
Officers spotted multiple condoms on the front seat of her vehicle and noted the ListCrawler app was active on her cellphone, according to the complaint.
Payton remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 straight bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 10 before District Judge Paul Keeler.
