A petition calling on Sir Keir Starmer to call another general election has garnered over two million signatures and has drawn the attention of Elon Musk.
The petition on the Parliament website was created by Michael Westwood, a pub landlord, expressing disillusionment with the Labour party.
Mr Westwood wrote: “I believe the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election.”
Signatures soared after Elon Musk threw his support behind the campaign on X, formerly Twitter. The Tesla mogul wrote on Sunday: “The people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state.”
Right-wing MPs including Richard Tice, the deputy leader of the Reform party, and Andrew Griffith, the shadow business secretary, have also been sharing the petition, calling on voters to sign and share it in a challenge to Sir Keir’s Government.
While Parliament will consider any petition that gets over 100,000 signatures for a debate, this isn’t guaranteed.
