Thirty-six people, including 15 minors, have been killed in an Israeli attack on the Jabaliya refugee district in the northern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.
The Israeli military said it had struck a “terrorist infrastructure site in the area of Jabaliya in which terrorists were operating.” They had threatened Israeli troops active in the area, it said, adding that the details of the incident were under review.
“Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians,” the Israeli military added in a statement.
The Hamas-controlled health authority in the Gaza Strip stated that in the more than 13 months since the war began, more than 43,600 people have been killed and nearly 103,000 others injured in the territory. The figures do not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
