A 62-year-old man is dead after a crash involving a school bus in Shelby County Monday afternoon, according to Shelby County Sheriff James Frye.

The crash occurred in the 5600 block of Houston Road around 3:15 p.m.

An initial investigation found that a 2023 Black Chevrolet Silverado crashed in the back of a Hardin-Houston Local School bus.

Eric Brandewie, 62, of Fort Loramie, was driving the Silverado at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead on scene, according to Frye.
32 students and one driver were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Hardin-Houston Local School Superintendent Ryan Maier told News Center 7 that the bus had just left school for the day.
A witness on scene told deputies that the Silverado crashed into the back of the bus as it was pulling away from letting kids off.
Frye said the driver was having a medical emergency at the time of the crash.
“(Brandewie’s) family told Deputies that Eric Brandewie had called his wife and reported that he was having chest pains and sweating profusely. It was decided he would go to his daughter’s residence and then to the hospital, this call would have been 5 to 10 minutes before the accident,” Frye said.

One student sustained an ankle injury but was treated by Spritit EMS on scene.
This crash remains under investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
