A driver is fighting for their life after a horrific crash beside the East Lancashire Road on Sunday afternoon (February 23), the M.E.N understands.
Emergency services, including police, fire crews and paramedics, raced to the incident at the junction with Chaddock Lane, near to Worsley, at around 4.30pm. Two cars and a van were involved.
One driver was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious and life-threatening injuries. The main road was also sealed off following the collision amid investigations.
An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene and landed nearby as a large number of police vehicles, fire engines and ambulances were seen lining the main road.
Greater Manchester Police urged people to ‘avoid the area’ with the road closure expected to remain in place for a number of hours into Sunday night. A screen was also erected around one of the vehicles involved.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 4.30pm on Sunday 23 February, two fire engines from Farnworth Community Fire Station, and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh Community Fire Station, were called attend a road traffic collision involving a van and two cars on Chaddock Lane, Worsley.
“Crews arrived quickly and are working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to make the area safe.”
As a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: “We are responding to a serious three-vehicle road traffic collision on Chaddock Lane in Worsley tonight. The East Lancashire Road has been closed heading into Manchester. Please avoid the area and plan routes accordingly.”
