Philadelphia Plane Crash Prompts Large Emergency Response
Authorities gathered in large number in Northeast Philadelphia after a small plane crashed, caused an explosion, and sparked multiple fires near a shopping mall and homes on Friday evening, January 31, according to local media, citing police.The crash happened near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, across from the Roosevelt Mall shortly after 6 pm, authorities said.The FAA said a Learjet 55 crashed after leaving Northeast Philadelphia Airport, according to NBC Philadelphia.According to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, six people were on board the aircraft, including four crew members, one pediatric patient, and one escort.Local media, citing police, reported several fatalities, while Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker said the number of fatalities remained unknown.Footage from Instagram user @dreamstsl shows a large emergency response at the scene.The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) said several roads in the area would remain closed as emergency services responded to the scene.
