EastEnders shares first look at new characters in Reiss murder story

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has released a first look at new characters arriving in Reiss’s murder story.

Next week’s episodes will involve the aftermath of Reiss’s horrifying decision to murder his wife Debbie to solve his financial dilemma.

Preview photos introduce Nichola McAuliffe (Victoria) and Michael Bertenshaw (The Archers) making their first appearance as Reiss’s late wife Debbie’s parents, Brenda and Hugh Collins.

The Collinses arrive in Albert Square looking for answers on how Debbie died, having no idea that Reiss was responsible for killing her.

Reiss’s in-laws also don’t know he’s been dating Sonia Fowler while Debbie lay in a coma. The Collinses will certainly have some uncomfortable questions for their son-in-law.

Earlier this week, Reiss tried to scam Sharon Watts to pay off a £13.5K care home bill but was foiled by Phil Mitchell’s intuition that he was up to something dodgy.

Reiss then made the monstrous decision to kill his comatose wife by smothering her with a pillow to stop the mounting medical bills.

He was able to slip away from her bedside without being noticed by the nurses and then pretended he knew nothing when Sonia announced Debbie had died.

Debbie’s care home nurses think she passed from pneumonia, yet Reiss hasn’t necessarily got away with his crime because there will be a post-mortem.

Even worse, Sonia had decided to put her house up for sale to pay off Reiss’s debts, so the murderer’s financial problems would have been solved anyway.

Will Reiss’s evil crime come to light?

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
