Eight detained after protesters halt traffic at Frankfurt airport

German police said eight people were being detained after taking part in a protest by the Last Generation group that temporarily halted flights at Frankfurt airport.

Seven people managed to enter the airport premises early on Thursday and glued themselves to the two central runways, according to a police spokesman on Thursday.

Another person was stuck to the airport’s fence and has also been detained.

Flights were temporarily suspended at Germany’s largest airport due to the protest, but operations partially resumed on all four runways at 8 am (0600 GMT).

Two of the activists have already been freed from the tarmac and handed over to state police, federal police said.
