Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale has confirmed the details of Ella Forster’s upcoming return, with Ella due to be caught up in a dramatic car crash as she arrives back in the village.
Ella fled Emmerdale last month after her dark past was revealed, when her new boyfriend Liam Cavanagh discovered that Ella had killed her friend Joanne when the girls were just 11 years old. Ella admitted that she had previously been known as Ruth, and that she had adopted a new identity after serving time in prison for her crime.
Furious Liam ended their relationship following the revelation, unable to believe that Ella had concealed the truth from him, especially as his own teenage daughter Leanna was murdered in 2021 by Meena Jutla.

In new scenes to air on the soap, Manpreet Sharma urges a downbeat Liam to give things with his ex Chas Dingle another go, after he shares his fears that he’ll be single forever.
The next day, Liam doesn’t realise that a mysterious person is watching him…
Later, Mandy Dingle discovers an intruder and quickly realises that it’s Ella. Clearly in distress, Ella explains that she’s just come back to collect the rest of her belongings. As Ella heads off, Mandy is left unsure of what to do.

It isn’t long before Sam Dingle is calling an ambulance to report a car crash that’s taken place out on a country road. It’s soon revealed that one of the vehicles involved is Ella’s – will she be okay?
Emmerdale’s new producer Sophie Roper recently teased some details to Digital Spy and other media about what’s coming up for Ella following the “powerful” reveal about Ella’s past.
“Ella will continue in the show and her past will continue to haunt her,” she said. “Her relationship with Liam will remain complicated and we’ll continue to question: will she ever get her happily-ever-after? Can she ever escape her past that’s led her to this point?”

Actor Jonny McPherson, who plays Liam, has previously shared his doubts over a romantic future for Liam and Ella, admitting that Ella’s deception “is a big thing for him”.
“I think this relationship is now almost definitely cooked! I mean, never say never, but I would say it’s almost definitely it. I don’t think there is any coming back from it,” he said.
“On multiple occasions, Ella could have told him the truth. She had so many chances to open up and tell him about her past but she didn’t,” he explained, adding: “He feels utterly betrayed and very upset.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
