Escape to the Country left two potential buyers rather unsure during the latest episode, as they confessed they could not afford a grand house on offer.
The popular daytime show was back for another instalment on Monday afternoon (August 5) with presenter Steve Brown at the helm. Helping newly wedded couple Lucy and James on their search for the perfect country abode in North Yorkshire, Steve had his work cut out for him.
With a budget of £600,000, Lucy and James had a lot of cash to play with. But when the pair stumbled across a property that appeared very large in scale, Lucy had her doubts.
When Steve asked the couple their thoughts on property number two, which was a 17th-century farm house, Lucy replied: “It looks very nice. It looks big! It’s in a stunning location really good views.”
James then added: “It looks great, it looks enormous!” This then led Lucy to admit: “I’m not sure we can afford this!”
But Steve, who hadn’t yet disclosed the price, encouraged the pair to stay hopeful. He said: “Don’t be put off by the size, there is a lot that this property offers you.
“What looks like a very rural location, you’re not that far from civilization after all.” Steve then led Lucy and James inside the property for a closer inspection.
The stone farmhouse had a historical charm on the outside, continuing inside the property. The home included a bright modern kitchen, three sitting rooms with high ceilings and wooden beams throughout.
But the chirpy newlyweds were still unsure of the size of the property and whether it would suit their needs. While upstairs in one of the bedrooms, James told Lucy: “I think it’s quite a big house, it is a considerable size and I think we should probably have a think on whether this is too big or it’s just what we’re looking for!”
However, when Steve did eventually disclose the price of property number two, Lucy was pleasantly surprised. The house was on offer for £550,000 which was £50,000 under their budget.
But despite the great price, the couple still was not convinced. Due to the age of the property- the couple knew they had a lot of work to do and they weren’t up for the large-scale job.
Escape to the Country airs weekdays on BBC One at 3pm.
