Fantasy film with ‘stellar cast’ viewers call ‘pure magic’ showing free on TV

Romantic fantasy adventure film Stardust is all set to air on television this week, making it a perfect treat to watch with all of the family.

The Matthew Vaughn directorial will air on today (December 21) at 3:30pm to 6:00pm on Channel 4. For those who aren’t able to catch it the first time around, it will then be available to stream for free on streaming service 4OD.

Based on Neil Gaiman’s 1999 novel of the same name, the film features an incredible cast consisting of Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Sienna Miller and Ricky Gervais.

Jason Flemyng, Rupert Everett, Peter O’Toole, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro round out the fabulous list of actors, with Sir Ian McKellen stepping in as narrator of the movie.

Stardust follows a man named Tristan Thorn (Charlie Cox) who ventures into a realm of fairies to retrieve a fallen star and to win the heart of his beloved Victoria Forester (Sienna Miller). However, he ends up getting more than he bargained for when he encounters Yvaine (Claire Danes) who is in great danger as evil witch Lamia (Michelle Pfieffer) is after her for her eternal youth and beauty.

Following it’s release back in 2007, the film opened up to positive reviews and managed to become a box office success. It made $137 million worldwide from a $70-88.5 million budget and has become a cult classic with audiences over the years.

Stardust has received plenty of accolades over the years, with the Associated Press Film critic David Germain put the film in seventh place on his list for 10 best films of 2007. It won an Empire Award in 2008 for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy, as well as other awards including GLAAD Media, a Hugo Award and a Phoenix Film Critics Society Award.

It has a 7.6 rating on IMDb from a whopping 289 thousand reviews, as well as a 77% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics reviews and a 86% Popcornmeter from audience reviews.

Fans have praised the film over the years with one person expressing: “Fantasy classic with a great cast, fantastic Neil Gaiman story and the film stays true to the book. Great special effects and scenery and Robert De Niro is wonderful.”
