Fond du Lac man gets 25-year sentence for role in 2020 fentanyl overdose death

FOND DU LAC – Joshua P. Weber, 47, received a 25-year sentence Jan. 27 for his role in a Fond du Lac fentanyl overdose death from 2020.

Weber was convicted of first-degree reckless homicide in October. Fond du Lac County Judge Laura Lavey sentenced Weber to 12 years of initial confinement and 13 years of extended supervision, consecutive to any other sentence, according to Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney.

The criminal complaint describes a police interview with Weber during which Weber described going with the victim to Milwaukee to purchase drugs. The victim was found dead in his Fond du Lac residence on Dec. 28, 2020, but investigators believe he died Dec. 25, after Weber left the victim at the residence without calling for help.

“Today was an emotionally charged sentencing with family and friends of the victim bravely sharing the loss they continue to suffer today from a loved one dying from a fentanyl overdose death,” Toney said. “The sentence will not bring him back, but we hope it inspires someone else to get the help they need and sends a strong message to those that seek to deliver poison in our community.”

The Fond du Lac Police Department and Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group investigated the case, and Toney prosecuted.
