Former Manchester United manager David Moyes lands new role after West Ham departure

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has landed a new job in football.

Moyes left his role as manager of West Ham in the summer after spending nearly five years in charge in what was his second stint at the London Stadium. The former United boss was replaced by Julen Lopetegui earlier this summer and it has not taken long to find a new role.

Journalist Henry Winter has reported that Moyes has landed a role with UEFA where he will work as a technical observer. The 61-year-old has been joined in the role by Gaareth Southgate, who stepped down as manager of the England national team following the conclusion of Euro 2024.

The role will involve Moyes attending matches – likely to be in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League – on behalf of UEFA and reporting back findings to the football governing body. Moyes’ findings will be submitted to UEFA’s technical department which will contribute to their annual report at the end of the season.

This will be the first non-managerial job that Moyes has held since he first stepped into coaching with Preston North End back in 1998. Moyes was United manager from 2013/14 and was Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in the Old Trafford dugout.

Moyes lasted a little under a year in the role before he was dismissed in April 2014. He has since gone on to manager Real Sociedad and Sunderland, as well as enjoying two spells in charge of West Ham since 2017.

It’s possible that Moyes could be in attendance for United’s matches in the Europa League this season as part of his new role. The Reds will be involved in the group stage of the competition this term, with the draw taking place later this month.
