Four people attacked by dog in Roxbury; one sustains life-threatening injuries, police say

Four people were rushed to the hospital Monday evening, one with life-threatening injuries, after being attacked by a dog in Roxbury, according to police.

Boston police responded to Dennison Street in Roxbury for a report of a man and a woman bitten by a dog around 4:49 p.m., a Boston police spokesperson told Boston 25.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. Information on the other victim’s condition was not made immediately available.

Authorities say the attack happened inside the residence and the two victims were the dog’s owners.

A Boston police officer fired his gun at the dog while responding to the incident after two officers were bitten. Police did not state whether the attacking dog was killed.

Both officers were transported to an area hospital and are expected to be okay.

Surveillance video obtained by Boston 25 News shows the danger that officers were greeted with before three shots were fired on the dead-end street.

“I heard two shots, and I saw that the dog was down. About a minute or so later, less than that, I heard a third shot,” said one neighbor. “It was terrible.”

Boston 25 News has learned that the attack happened at the multi-family home owned by civil rights leader Jean McGuire.

McGuire said she was not home when the attack happened in a first-floor unit.

Police were not able to provide an update on the condition of the dog and would not comment on the dog’s breed.

Boston Animal Control transported the dog who was shot and also took three additional dogs from the scene.

An investigation is active and ongoing.
