Three people were injured in western Germany on Friday when a freight train derailed following a collision with another train, causing massive disruptions for travellers.
Police said the train driver suffered critical injuries and was brought to hospital along with two others.
The causes of the crash, which took place early on Friday morning along the line between the major cities of Cologne and Aachen, are unclear and under investigation.

The busy route, which also connects Frankfurt with Brussels, is set to be closed for several days, a spokesman for German rail operator Deutsche Bahn said.
“It will probably take several days before everything is fixed,” he added.
Bus replacement services are in operation between Cologne and Aachen, with long queues reported among passengers.
A large team of rescue workers were deployed to the scene in the early morning before the situation was brought under control.
