Frigid weekend with continued slick travel Saturday

TGIF and happy almost weekend! We have some treacherous travel to get through this evening into the overnight as light snow continues to plague many communities. A clipper system to our south is beginning to link up with a coastal low and we’re on the northern fringe of it all. Temperatures will tumble into the teens to low 20s overnight through early Saturday morning. Wind chills will likely be in the single digits to middle teens, all as a brisk northwest wind kicks in for the weekend.

High temperatures will top out in the teens Saturday and Sunday, but it’s the wind chill values that will mean the most this weekend. Northwest winds will gust upwards of 30 mph Saturday afternoon which will just absolutely destroy our wind chills. It will be feeling like the single digits above and below zero at times through Saturday afternoon with continued upslope mountain snow and valley flurries.

Overnight into Sunday morning, it turns even colder as the snow shuts off and winds begin to relax. Wake up wind chill values on Sunday morning will be brutal with many feeling like the teens to middle 20s below zero. Winds will continue to relax throughout Sunday with improving wind chills in the single digits above and below zero by the afternoon. Sunday night into Monday morning, a brief high pressure system sweeps in with more sunshine to kick off the holiday week.

Snowfall totals between tonight and the end of the weekend will average a widespread dusting to 4 inches with localized 5+ inch amounts in the high slopes, peaks, and summits. Ski areas and resorts will make out real well with this fine, powdery, sugary snowfall.
