Less than a month after Frisch’s Restaurants touted a list of more than 50 Big Boy diners as “here to stay,” the company has dropped more than 20 locations described as “open to serve you.“
Frisch’s Restaurants lists 31 locations on its website down from the 52 locations it highlighted to reassure customers that its recent financial difficulties would not disrupt future service. Only a dozen of the remaining stores on the list are located in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky or southeast Indiana.
Among the locations dropped from the list are the historic Mainliner Big Boy in Fairfax, which was ordered to vacated last month in an eviction proceeding in Hamilton County.
Early last year, Frisch’s had more than 80 locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana before trimming five restaurants in spring. As recently as 2015, Frischâs Big Boy had 121 locations when it was acquired by the Atlanta-based investment firm for $175 million.

Frisch’s officials did not respond to an email seeking comment.
In the past three months, Frisch’s has seen a wave of closures amid a dispute with its landlord, Orlando-based NNN Reit Inc. On Oct. 23, Frisch’s disclosed it would close an unspecified number of restaurants due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
Court records revealed Frisch’s faced “more than 20” properties face eviction in Southwest Ohio alone. Records also showed NNN Reit claims Frisch’s owed more than $4.5 million in rent.
