From the Archives: Feb. 19 in the Pioneer

Feb. 19—February 19, 2015 — The Bemidji area remains in a cold snap, with temperatures expected to remain in the 30-below range when factoring in wind chill. Most of northern Minnesota has been in a wind chill advisory, with some areas of the state experiencing lows of 40 below, according to the National Weather Service.

February 19, 2000 — Bemidji School District purchased 15 new iMacs for a computer lab at the middle school. The bright blue iMacs are the latest product of Apple Computers and provide ideal, quick access to the internet. The new computers will help meet the state’s requirement for researched-based school projects.

February 19, 1975 — A 15-year-old Cass Lake boy has died after a homemade explosive device went off at his home on Big Wolf Lake. According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, the boy had taken powder from shotgun shells before placing the device in a vice and lighting the fuse, causing the vice to explode.

February 19, 1925 — H.Z. Mitchell, editor of the Pioneer, has been named president of the State Editorial Association. He is the third member of his family to hold this office. His father, W.B. Mitchell of St. Cloud, was president from 1870 to 1873, and his uncle, the late C.S. Mitchell, was president in 1900.
