Jan. 4—January 4, 2015 — The Bemidji High School boys hockey team improved to 12-1-1 with its recent 3-1 win over Sartell-St. Stephen. In a game that marked the team’s 12th straight win, the Lumberjacks’ impressive penalty kill was on display as the team played shorthanded six times throughout the game.

January 4, 2000 — Consumers throughout northern Minnesota can soon sample the clean, clear water of a Red Lake aquifer as the Red Lake Band of Chippewa enters the bottled water market. The bottling plant, stationed in Redby, is a partnership between the Red Lake Nation and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Bemidji.

January 4, 1975 — A new device is available for blind students at Bemidji State College after the school purchased an Optacon sensory aid for reading. The Optacon consists of a miniature camera attached to a device that electronically converts each letter into a tactile image, allowing students to read directly from printed material.

January 4, 1925 — One hundred sixty-one tank cars of gasoline, valued at more than a quarter of a million dollars, were consumed by Bemidji automobiles and gasoline engines during 1924 at an average price of 20 cents a gallon, according to K.K. Roe, district gasoline and kerosene inspector for the state of Minnesota.
