Nov. 13—November 13, 2014 — The American Meteor Society has received five reports from area residents who reported seeing some type of fireball in the late afternoon sky. Evan Hazard, who writes the Northland Stargazing column for the Pioneer, said he believes the sightings were of exploding mid-sized rocks from the Taurid shower.

November 13, 1999 — With a high turnout of 2,544 voters, Red Lake tribal members voted against allowing the sale of alcohol at tribally owned casinos in Thief River Falls and Warroad. In treaties signed with the United States in 1889, Red Lake chiefs decreed that the Red Lake Reservation be alcohol-free.

November 13, 1974 — Bemidji’s Chamber of Commerce has cleared the last hurdle on its way to finding new headquarters, with the city council approving plans to remodel the current Paul Bunyan House-Senior Citizens Craft Shop complex to include new chamber offices. The remodel will cost an estimated $35,000.

November 13, 1924 — The first 1,100 cars of potatoes sold by the Minnesota Potato Growers Exchange netted 58 cents a hundred, according to the state headquarters. 80% of these were round whites, the poorest variety grown by members, but still, this price is well above what non-members have received for their potatoes.
