Gas prices down again in New York

PLATTSBURGH — The national average price of gasoline decreased after three weeks, down 3.0 cents from last week, and stands at $2.98 per gallon, and in New York state, prices are down 1.2 cents from a week ago, standing at $3.08 per gallon Monday according to GasBuddy’s survey of 6,118 stations in New York.

Prices in New York are 4.1 cents lower than a month ago and 24.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy data, the national average is down 4.9 cents compared to a month ago and 11.8 cents lower than a year ago.

The average price is $3.19 in Clinton County, $3.18 in Franklin County and $3.19 in Essex County.

“After a few weeks of rising gas prices, the national average has reversed course, declining as we close out 2024,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said.

“2024 will mark the second consecutive year of a decline in the national average. Tomorrow, GasBuddy will release the 2025 Fuel Price Outlook, offering insights into what motorists can expect in the year ahead. In the week ahead, we’ll likely see gas prices fall in some states, while the Great Lakes region may experience another price cycle. Overall, I expect the national average to remain mostly stable. The most common price per gallon encountered by motorists is $2.99, unchanged from last week.

The top 10% of stations in the country average $4.07 per gallon and the bottom 10% average $2.46 per gallon.

The states with the lowest average prices per gallon are Oklahoma at $2.51, Mississippi at $2.55 and Texas at $2.59.

Hawaii, California and Washington remain averaging the highest prices per gallon at $4.47, $4.27 and $3.81 respectively.
