German chief of defence Carsten Breuer gave a strong message of support for Ukraine on Saturday during talks in Kiev ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“Ukraine is fighting, it is fighting for our freedom,” Breuer, who is officially the inspector general of the German armed forces, said in a video posted on Telegram by Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The generals are seen hugging each other, with Syrskyi thanking Germany for its military support for his country’s resistance against the Russian assault.

Breuer was informed about the situation at the front, in the armed forces and about the further need for weapons, ammunition, training and military and special equipment, Syrskyi said.
The talks also covered issues relating to the maintenance and repair of German military technology supplied to Ukraine. According to Syrskyi, he stressed the need to continue this cooperation between the two countries.
This Monday marks the third anniversary of the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
