Business in Germany’s hospitality industry is on the decline, according to official data released on Tuesday.
In September, landlords and hoteliers generated 6% less revenue in real terms than in the same month last year, according to Germany’s Federal Statistical Office.
With higher prices, they were able to limit the decline in revenue to 2.6%. In a seasonally adjusted comparison with August 2024, real business shrank by 1%.
The hospitality sector, heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, has struggled to recover, losing permanent business during and after the crisis.
The Federal Statistical Office puts the price-adjusted decline in turnover compared to September 2019 at 17.5%.
While hotels and other accommodation providers have seen a smaller decline of 2.7% over the five-year period, the overall hospitality industry has experienced a 13.2% drop in turnover.
