German-Iranian dual national Jamshid Sharmahd has been executed on terrorism charges, according the official Iranian judiciary site Misan on Monday.
He was executed in the morning. In Iran, death sentences are usually carried out by hanging.
The Supreme Court upheld the sentence against Sharmahd in April 2023, despite human rights activists’ demands to halt it, and German calls for the sentence to be quashed.
Berlin had strongly criticized the sentence and called for Sharmahd’s release and his execution is likely to lead to new tensions in relations between Iran and Germany.
