Gov. Andy Beshear: Kentucky death toll from recent severe weather now at 20

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced late Friday the death toll from the recent flooding and severe cold has again increased.

Now, 20 Kentuckians have died, Beshear said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

According to the governor, the latest include:

  • An adult female from Warren County;

  • An adult male from Pike County;

  • An adult male from Caldwell County;

  • An adult male from Ohio County;

  • An adult female from Morgan County.

“Kentuckians show up for each other in times of need, and that’s what these 20 families need now as they mourn their loved ones. Let’s pray for them and let them know we’re here for them,” Beshear posted.

The intense cold, which claimed the lives of two people in Jefferson County who were believed to have been homeless, has relented, and the National Weather Service is predicting milder weather, with daytime highs near 60 by mid-week.

The Ohio River at Louisville crested Thursday afternoon at 28.3 feet and has been receding, but a flood warning remains in effect for the area.
