A homicide investigation is underway in Lithonia after a domestic situation led to the death of a DeKalb County grandfather.
Police say they were called out to the 7000 block of Dean Court in Lithonia around 6 p.m. to a person shot call. When officials arrived, they found a 77-year-old black man dead from a single gunshot wound.

Officials tell Channel 2 Action News the situation is domestic, and the victim is the grandfather of the suspect, his 34-year-old grandson, Jamal Nicholl.
“The Lithonia Police Department expresses its deepest condolences to the victim’s family. This is a truly heartbreaking event, and our thoughts are with the affected loved ones during this difficult time,” the department said.

Nicholl was arrested at the scene without further incident, and the investigation is ongoing to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this incident, police said.
