The county fire department “coordinated [a] multi-agency response,” Romo wrote, with support from the Torrance County Fire Department and volunteer fire districts from Stanley, Eldorado and Moriarty.
The team contained the blaze around 3:30 p.m. after it consumed several hundred acres.
Romo said the cause of the fire remains unknown, but it has been referred to the New Mexico State Forestry Division for additional monitoring and mop-up.
