Here’s when Thursday’s storm reaches Southern California

Thursday is expected to start out with clear skies across Southern California but a storm is moving down the coast.

The fast-moving storm approaching from the north is expected to arrive with cloudy skies around 1 p.m. but may not bring rain right away.

“As we get to the afternoon and into the evening we will start clouding things up and we’ll start bringing in a chance of rain with our mountain and foothill areas having the best chance of picking up some showers,” KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.

The weather system will also bring some gusty winds along with it but not the same as the dangerous Santa Anas that resulted in dangerous fire conditions earlier in the week.

“This will not dry us out and we don’t have the lower humidity, and it is pushing things off toward the east,” Henry said.

The storm’s center will stay to our north but Southern California will get some wrap-around moisture.

“Not a direct hit with the storm but we are looking at a chance of showers developing,” Henry said. “It’s kind of that 50/50 with rain because the moisture is there but the atmosphere isn’t quite ready to draw any of it out of the clouds. Do I think it’s going to rain? I do. I think we’re going to see some scattered showers. Mainly in the evening hours into tomorrow morning.”

The Los Angeles area could see about a tenth of an inch of rain with up to a quarter of an inch possible. Some mountain and foothill locations could receive even higher totals.

The National Weather Service is calling for another small chance of rain arriving in Los Angeles on Saturday but as of now, Henry does not think it will affect the area.

Temperatures are also forecast to climb again early next week as high pressure builds back into the region.
